[DSL] DSL overloading evenings in Ottawa

Anyone in Ottawa seeing TekSavvy evening DSL load problems? See the above graph. My CarryTel Cable is also showing the same problems on the same evenings. See the second graph, above. I wonder if the trunk from Ottawa to Toronto is overloaded.

I would like to send a shout out to @TSI_Byron and his colleagues for making the upgrade to 120 cable, an outstanding experience. The follow ups were prompt and on point. Nice fidelity discount. The service interruption lasted less than 15 minutes. Looks like your processes are very devops-ish, which I admire greatly! Good job Teksavvy.

[Cable] CCable->Constant buffering with Netflix with Roku streaming stick

Any idea why it's doing this and why it isn't starting to play back in HD (720 or 1080) from the get go? What's with the buffering? Netflix starts to play content at 480 and then drops down to 240 and starts to buffer (total play time: 10 seconds) Netflix starts to play content at 240 and then slowly starts to increase up to 1080 (480 -> 1080) Wifi signal to the Roku: Excellent (that's what the Roku is showing on the TV) Roku Streaming Stick Model: 3600 (located behind a few walls) WiFi info: Using 802.11n on the 5 GHz band. WiFi signal: -62 dBm (from the router's web interface) It's doing this on my other Roku Streaming Stick (3600) as well but that one is only 5 feet LOS from the router. Current speed package: 40/10 Mbps Router: ASUS RT-AC1900P Router F/W: Asuswrt-Merlin Firmware Version: 384.10_2 Could it be the SkyNet firewall addon that I'm using?

TekSavvy access to Bell Fibre?

Bell just install Fibre directly into each unit of my building and are offering 1.5Gbps internet. I've heard that TekSavvy and other wholesalers don't have access to Bell's FTTH infrastructure yet. Any word on if/when this might happen? I would love pure fibre internet, but not at the cost of doing business with Bell.

[Home Phone] Migrate from Bell landline to Teksavvy Home phone service

With the Bell Home phone landline cost of 60+/month I think it makes sense to go for Teksavvy' s VoIP and cost effective solution. however I have Teksavvy DSL and knowing Bell, it could get messy or tricky at least... Has anyone done it? and what was their experience? was Bell retaliatory against Teksavvy's DSL survive when Phone landline service was closed and they lost the business? Thanks

vCable 100/30?

The 120 mbps is gone from Vidéotron and I was wondering if Teksavvy is going to offer this 100/30? Ebox is already offering this package at 64.95$ and no longer offer 60 and 120. Is there any plan? I'm on the 60/10 at 63.95$...

I dialed a long distance number today, but thought I'd try dialing it without the 1 before the area code and phone number. It worked. Is this normally the way it is with TekSavvy? Jim

[TekTalk] Tektalk information

$

My mother-in-law is about to move and has asked me to review her tech including her phone service. I'm trying to find details on TekTalk but the website seems to lack any meaningful information. I don't remember it being this way in the past. When I go to https://teksavvy.com/services/phone, I get options to either order or view long distance rates. If I go to order I get a summary of 3 packages but I can't seem to get any additional details and I have a number of questions. For example: Tektalk basic lists includes unlimited local calling. What is the local calling zone? what is the rate for calls to the rest of Canada and the US? you would think this would be under long-distance rates but it's not. Tektalk premium offers 100 minutes of long-distance but doesn't provide any information on cost for overage. It also lists "dozens of handy features" but doesn't provide a complete list. Adding together the features of basic and premium I count 8 so I would expect at least another 14 in order to make 2 dozen (since you have chosen the plural of dozen). Where can I see the list? Is a device provided? is there a set-up cost? Is there a simple table that compares the costs and features of the services? Thanks

[Cable] For You Hitron CGN3 Experts Out There - Two Login IPs??

$

I'm adding cable and keeping DSL for a while (Bell issues) and I am reading the Hitron manual, all 90+ pages of it. My question - at the front of the manual , page 4, the login directions are 192.168.0.1 and the cusadmin/password credentials, fair enough. I remember those from 5 years ago with Rogers. Then on page 23/24 it describes login to 10.0.0.1 and different credentials, admin/password. I have not read the whole manual but I wonder if the 2nd set 10.0.0.1 is for the WAN side of configuration? Or more advanced settings, like the 2 different logins for the 505 DSL modem ? Or is it a mistake? That 10.0.0.1 is not used at all? I have been asking back and forth in my "getting a dry loop" topic and also privately and I think this has really become off topic for both those threads. Thus I thought a fresh - aimed at cable users - question might be more practical. I know there's a base of people much more familiar with all the tweaks than I am, and may yield a clearer picture. I'm going to run it as a sole source for stress testing on a MacPro with two ethernet interfaces. If it passes, I will use it as the master DHCP server at which point I will have to change the default IP to 192.168.2.1 (because I have 5 devices on fixed IP addresses between 192.168.2.25 and 2.100) and set the DHCP range from 192.168.2.101 upwards, which is what I have now with DSL.

[Cable] Teksavvy botched installation...twice! This I think Teksavvy sux!

I ordered their services, and then cancelled before activation, but was charged upfront for 1 month of service beforehand, and it took me forever to get a refund on services that were never installed. They expected me to wait a week before I would have use of my phone lines after my Internet service was installed! They even demanded a copy of my credit card statement to prove I had been charged for the equipment they sent to me after I had returned it to them, and they had more than a month to process that return! My advice - don't bother with Teksavvy! UPDATE: After I had been hit with a $6 increase from Rogers (just 9 months into a 2 year price guarantee), I decided to give Teksavvy another try. In my view, they grossly overcharged me for my first month of service, and I spent more than an hour over the phone to arrive at their promise to reverse the charges to my credit card, and I will end up filing a complaint with the CRTC! Way to go Teksavvy! Another update: Even after I cancelled my not-yet-setup service, and I was assured that the modems would not be shipped...but they were! I might have to wait until who-knows-when to get my refund! IF YOU VAULUE YOUR PEACE OF MIND, I WOULD ADVISE YOU TO STAY AWAY FROM TEKSAVVY!!! P.S. In the end, I was willing to stay with Teksavvy if they matched what ACANAC (among others) were offering (free equipment and 1st month free) and - even after the hassle I feel I went through - they couldn't even do that! HA!

Website broken for internet service

Look, I love you guys and I try to direct friends and coworkers to you as an ISP, but it's a really hard sell when your address qualification tool is so badly broken. What's even worse is that there is no way that I could find to see the prices. Even putting in my current address that you've been serving now for many years results in "Whoops! It seems like that address doesn’t qualify for service. If you believe this is an error, please give us a call at 1-844-739-3070." Address qualification tools are always going to have issues. There should be some way to pick a service area and see what offerings you have in that area. I know you say to call in, but in these times people want the info right there in front of them without having to wait to speak to an agent. If you can't even run a website to sell service, why would people believe me when I say you guys are the best ISP out there?

How To Bypass "Smart Connect" On Hitron CGN3 Modem

$

My Hitron modem arrived two days before the scheduled setup visit from Rogers. There appears to be no way to connect to it and set up things like Wifi SSID etc., unless it's connected to Rogers internet. 192.168.0.1 repeatedly returns to a Smart Connect setup screen and that fails with no internet connected yet. You cannot pass step 1 to get to other steps. It's like it's designed for 12 year olds (scratch that, 12 year olds would know what to do - 8 year olds). How do you get into the setup screens without Smart Connect? Coax is disconnected, it was reset using the hidden button and it's delivered a proper IP to my laptop (192.168.0.10 in this case). Always reverts to 192.168.0.1/selfinstall.index.html I've never seen a modem/router with no ability to connect to the setup screens whether connected to internet or not, e.g. how would you access it for diagnostics if there was no internet?

More Questions For Hitron CGN3 Experts - DNS/IPV6/Fixed IP addresses

$

First an important tip to users - once you do "easy connect" the cusadmin password is set to your Wi-fi password you set in easy connect, it's not "password" anymore as I discovered when "password" failed 10 times in a row. My wifi passwords are long and complex and I prefer a separate router access password. The Hitron manual is wrong already (depending on which manual you are looking at already because it says both 192.168.0.1 and 10.0.0.1 are the addresses for the router login) and because it does not mention easy connect you are not advised that the password is automatically set to the wifi password. Now you know. My questions: 1. I cannot seem to stick Cloudflare DNS servers by changing the DNS under Basic DNS to the two Cloudflare settings plus I guess one IVP6 DNS setting. I get ERROR and the page won't save (it won't revert back to Auto either, grr.....). In a chat with Teksavvy they said TS does not support other DNS servers, so does that mean I cannot embed them in the modem/router? (It's not a huge deal I suppose because I am on OS X and you can set DNS servers by connection which override the router settings, but still). 2. The Hitron is preset as IPV4 and IPV6 and delivers both styles of IP to my connected computers. I see this can be disabled in the router - good or bad idea or no difference? 3. I am running device this as a DHCP server but not on my full LAN yet, because this is a stress test for Rogers cable internet. My current network uses addresses in the range starting at 192.168.2.X with DHCP addresses assigned starting at .101. This is because I have 5 devices with fixed IP addresses in the range of 192.168.2.25 to 2.100. The Hitron has a "DHCP Reservation" button where I think you can apply fixed IP addresses to the MAC address of each device (4 are wifi routers configured as access points and one is a printer). If I only allow DHCP to devices at .101 and above do I need to "reserve" anything? My current setup with the SmartRG 505 just assigns DHCP to .101 and above and "sees" the 5 devices with fixed IP addresses. I ask because I am not sure if I can see the MAC addresses on other routers, I suppose they are there somewhere. Maybe on labels or something. Oops, I have a final question so 4. I do not see a setting to refuse login to the router via wifi. I think it's unsafe and should be limited to connection via ethernet. Where if anywhere, is the setting to deny wifi access to the admin login? So far it works better than Rogers equipment or service did 5 years ago when I left for Teksavvy DSL.

Second IP address on TS VDSL business service?

$

We currently have TS business internet (50/10) on a (Bell) VDSL connection (Lucent 7330 if that's relevant) with static IP. On our end we have a huawei vdsl modem (I picked up a few of those cheap on ebay about 4 years ago) with ubiquiti ER3 router. Is there a way to obtain / activate a second IP address on this connection, and is there an additional cost for that?
