[Cable] Cable IPV6 IP Address Leaking Past VPN?

$

The Hitron modem assigns WAN IP addresses for IPV4 and IPV6. I connect with PIA VPN to almost all connections. PIA is supposed to block IPV6 addresses but I am not sure it did. I tested through IP magnet and Torguard for torrent IP leaking. Both these services use a magnet file in Transmission and record the IP address being broadcast for torrents. When connected to PIA, these "leak" tests would show two IP addresses - the IPV4 address assigned by PIA plus an IPV6 address which is similar but not identical to the WAN IPV6 address. If this other IPV6 address is "looked up", it resolves to Teksavvy. The first two groups of numbers/letters in the IPV6 IP address are the same, but all the remaining numbers in both sets are not the same: Example (made up numbers): Without PIA my IPV6 IP is :2001:0db8:85a3:0000:0000:8a2e:0370:7334 With PIA the IP as detected through the magnet file is (also made up numbers): 2001:0db8:2222:3333:cbe1:6aaa:abab:6543 Thus the first two groups of numbers/letters are the same and the rest are not the same. Is the VPN leaking the IPV6 address for torrents? Even though they are not the same, the IPV6 address does not look up to the network provider used by PIA. What I have done to resolve: 1. In the modem settings, I turned off the router assigning local IPV6 addresses under the Gateway 1A. After doing this, connected clients do not have IPV6 addresses. 1B. After doing this the WAN address of the cable modem is only an IPV4 address. Prior to doing this the WAN address for the modem was an IPV4 address followed by an IPV6 address separated by a comma. 2. In OS X under the settings for the ethernet connection I changed the IPV6 settings to link-local from automatic, though I don't think IPV6 addresses are being assigned by the modem any more. Post testing with torrent leak testing shows only the PIA assigned IPV4 address being detected. So was I seeing a leak or not? Wouldn't PIA blocking IPV6 addresses mean that nothing would show up in the magnet file response. Instead of a sort of mangled version of the assigned IPV6 address. Does disabling IPV6 addresses in the gateway settings effectively disable an IPV6 address assigned to the WAN? It appears to be the case.

Anyone in Ottawa seeing TekSavvy evening DSL load problems? See the above graph. My CarryTel Cable is also showing the same problems on the same evenings. See the second graph, above. I wonder if the trunk from Ottawa to Toronto is overloaded.

Ontario people who are on the Cogeco network, what are you all using? I just feel like doing a bit of information gathering on all the Cogeco approved modems for Teksavvy. https://help.teksavvy.com/hc/en-us/articles/200315180-Approved-Cable-Modems-Cogeco-Network-Ontario-

Hi, I was wondering if cell phone service is in the plan for the near or distant future. I have seen some other small ISP's offer it. Being totally free of "them" would bring smiles to a lot of faces.

MLPPP / BGP Dual WAN

I was a long time customer of TSI until FTTH was available at my place, at which point I switched just to get the upload and try it out (waiting for TSI to get access), however I am moving out of Toronto (YAY!) and need to switch back. I am anti-cable due to latency and I find the quality of service to be inferior when compared to VDSL, but am in need of >10 Mbps upload, I'd like 50 but I'll settle for 20. I was a user of the MLPPP option many many years ago, and am wondering if that's still an option to bond two lines, but I am also wondering if anyone is running iBGP with two lines and paying for a /30 or /29 and having it routed that way? Any feedback would be appreciated!

[Cable] Hitron CGNM-3550

I've got to get a new modem. My Technicolor DPC3848V is driving me nuts with the need to constantly reboot it in order to "wake up" the ethernet ports which seem to "die" on a regular basis. Teksavvy is pushing the Hitron CGNM-3550 modem, but I can't find much in terms of user feedback on this modem. I know it still has the Puma 6 chipset, but I can't find a TP-Link TC7650 or a SR808 to buy which are the only broadcom modems which are approved. Does anyone have experience with the CGNM-3550, and can anyone explain to me what would make the Hitron better than the Technicolor? All the specs seem similar, so I'm struggling to understand how to be an informed consumer on this one. Thanks, RjR

So I am a little green on the new TSI website but after I validate my address for Internet service I only see options for DSL. What happened to all of the cable packages? I currently have cable so I know it's available but the webpage makes no attempt to show me different services based on technology....fail?

IPV6 on Rogers

Hi I'm trying to setup IPV6 on my Teksavvy cable connection. It seems that I rarely, if ever, get an IPV6 address and prefix. I have my opnsense setup to request a /60 since I need to propagate to several internal LAN segments. Is this supposed to work?

[DSL] Router recommendations?

Hi all, We have a smart ft 505n that was mated to an Asus rt-n66u. Well it looks like after 5yrs of service the router just threw in the towel. I tried resetting it, but I can't even log in to the usual 192.168.1.1 page. Any recommendations on what would be a descent updated replacement? Good QoS is a must. And maybe the possibility of VPN at the router level at a later date would be nice. I've been told it can be very taxing on little router brains, but I don't know. This is above my pay grade. Oh yeah, and budget probably in the neighborhood of about $150ish I don't know if this makes a difference, but there are 10 wireless clients, and 2 wired.

TekSavvy TV Credential Caching

Not sure if this is the best place to post this, but likely the easiest since I suspect this is frustrating for many other users. I recently subscribed to TekSavvyTV (which is great so far, family loves it), however our main method of consumption is via Fire TV. While the app functions just fine in normal usage, every time the Fire TV updates the credentials stored in the app are lost and I have to painstakingly re-enter the credentials on the stupid little remote. This is fine if it happens once a month, but this has hit us 3+ times in the past week and is infuriating. There should really be the ability for this app to cache credentials through updates, or use some sort of sign-in mechanism that is more friendly (e.g. handle auth via phone app and cast as with virtually all Chromecast enabled apps). This is incredibly poor design (whether by Teksavvy or Amazon, I don't know) and already has me considering dumping this service.

[TV] Video quality and FPS

Are there any TekTV users here who can shed light on the overall experience so far? How’s the image quality with sports and in general? I heard the SN and TSN feeds were upgraded to 60 FPS recently. Is there a noticeable improvement, and how is the quality (sports) in comparison to Rogers cable? Thanks
