[DSL] SR505N / SR515AC firmware upgrade
I have noticed that new firmwares are available for both modems and the last two steps are now to perform a factory reset. Are these new steps just added or I just never paid attention before?
I have just performed an upgrade from 2.6.1.6 to 2.6.1.10 without a reset and everything seems to be working fine. Is there an incompatibility between these two firmwares?

Copy right infringement
Hey guys so recently I been looking through my father’s email and came across I’m guessing a teksavvy noreply email saying something about hbo copy infringe. Pretty much saying how this “sender” tried asking for my father’s information but teksavvy I guess has to follow guidelines and wouldn’t provide them.
Not sure how my IP address could be linked to illegal downloading since I don’t download anything I usually just usually watch stuff online and the smarttv is only used for the YouTube app. I’ve just simply googled “hbo copy infringe” to get and understanding and ran to global news interviewing isp including teksavvy, so wondering has anyone ever got this email before? Should I just ignore it?
Btw this email was sent back in sept. just recently seen it. Never once have I ever got an email like this. Cheers!

[DSL] Possible to load Teksavvy's web interface on a Smart.ca's SR505N?
Hello, about a month ago I purchased a used SR505N from someone on ebay, to be used as a backup modem. The only thing is it is a start.ca unit and was wondering what it would take to load Teksavvy's web interface (192.168.1.1) onto it?
Not that there's anything wrong, but just seems like the Teksavvy web interface has more info displayed

[DSL] New Config File Testing
Hello Everyone,
Teksavvy is currently looking for existing TSI customers with an active DSL Connection on the TELUS network that would be willing to test a new Config file for the SmartRG516 Modem.
We will provide a loaner SmartRG516 at no-cost for the duration of the tests. The device will have to be returned after the testing period.
Please post in TekSavvy Direct if you would like to participate.

[DSL] Attacks by other TekSavvy customers on my host
Hey TekSavvy,
I'm a longtime customer.
In the past 5 days my Linux server firewall has logged 1800 attempts to access and portscan my host including repeated attempts to telnet in, from a handful of hosts with TekSavvy addresses.
This is clearly in contravention of your TOS.
I previously emailed abuse@teksavvy.com about this behavior but did not receive the courtesy of a reply.
I am therefore escalating it to this pubic forum, as this behavior and your apparent unwillingness to do anything about compromised or malicious hosts on your network likely affects other customers, not just me.
Being attacked by hosts that are provided with an internet connection bt the same company I pay money to every month isn't acceptable.
After you confirm here that you will respond to my offline communications this time, I will attempt to do so.
I will update this thread with a followup message about your effectiveness in dealing with this problem.
Thank you.

[Cable] IPv6 on Cogeco?
I'm toying with the idea of changing to cable, from DSL, and in my area the cableco is Cogeco. The big thing that's keeping me on DSL right now is that I want IPv6, and I don't know that ipv6 is available for TPIA.
I have a really good reason to change - Cogeco just yanked all the copper out of my neighbourhood. I was talking with one of their technicians when they were connecting up fibre to everyone on the street. Apparently... if you want cable internet in the neighbourhood... it will be fibre. TPIA, or direct Cogeco customer, it's all fibre here now.

[DSL] New Smart TV connection issues
Hello! I am a bit lost on what step to take next to resolve my issue. We just got a new 4K Samsung Smart TV and it is only connected on Wi-Fi. It seems to have streaming buffering issues so I upgraded our internet from Teksavvy, and while improved, is still not working quite well. Here are some facts:
- Currently have Teksavvy DSL 50/10
- Modem: Sagemcom F@ST 2864
- Modem is hard connected to my PC, and the TV is connected via Wi-Fi about 25 feet through 2 apartment walls from the modem.
- I have never updated my modem, someone suggested updating firmware but I'm not sure how.
Is my modem too old? What kind of modem should I be looking for if it needs to be replaced?
Thank you in advance for any guidance.

Using other DNS servers - Does it make a difference?
Hey guys, just came across this YouTube video and was wondering if it really does make a difference.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqnvrjgyEMc
Like, my internet is really snappy with Teksavvy's DNS servers but was wondering if something like this or Google's 8.8.8.8? Would make a difference.
I think the Netflix app on my Roku uses 8.8.8.8 for the DNS server.

[Cable] Hitron CGN3 cable modem firmware update?
Got a Hitron CGN3 cable modem on a Rogers line with Teksavvy.
It has a firmware v4.2.2.5 , which is maybe from 2014/2015
Currently Rogers pushed firmware v.4.5.8.x to their customer
Wondering if my modem will get updated by either Rogers ? or Teksavvy ?
Thanks!

[Cable] CCable - Future upload speeds?
I was just thinking, since the internet plans with Cogeco and TekSavvy are offering a really fast download speed, when will the upload speed cap ever be increased? 10Mbps is .... okay but of course more would be better.
One could always dream, right? ;)

DNS Flag Day and teksavvy.com problems
Hello,
On February 1, 2019, there will be some major changes to DNS with regards to EDNS:
A number of DNS software and service providers have announced that we will all cease implementing DNS resolver workarounds to accommodate DNS authoritative systems that don’t follow the EDNS protocol. Each vendor has pledged to roll out this change in some version of their software by the ‘Flag Day.’
[…]
Domains served by DNS servers that are not compliant with the standard will not function reliably after February 1, 2019, and may become unavailable.
If your company’s DNS zones are served by non-compliant servers, your online presence will slowly degrade or disappear as ISPs and other organizations update their resolvers. When you update your own internal DNS resolvers to versions that don’t implement workarounds, some sites and email servers may become unreachable. https://www.isc.org/blogs/dns-flag-day/
It turns out that teksavvy.com is effected by this:
This domain will face issues after the 2019 DNS flag day. It will work in practice, BUT clients will experience delays when accessing this domain. We recommend you request a fix from your domain administrator! You can refer them to https://dnsflagday.net/ and technical report https://ednscomp.isc.org/ednscomp/8489f654d5
Who is the person that should be looking at this?
More information, including links to test suite, at:

[Email] TSI's Mail Server Getting Bounced!
Hmmm. Most curious.
If I've interpreted the arcanery correctly it might seem that TSI's mail server (76.10.157.34) got/is/was blacklisted.
To wit:

5.4.7 - Delivery expired (message too old) [Default] 421-'4.7.0 [TSS04] Messages from 76.10.157.34 temporarily deferred due to user complaints - 4.16.55.1; see https://help.yahoo.com/kb/postmaster/SLN3434.html'
=========
Specs:
- initial recipient of email was and is a known-working addy
- sender (moi) was and is known working addy (X@Y.dyndns.org), on own (Exim) server/MTA, smarthosted to TSI's out.teksavvy.com over secure :995
- it would appear that the initial email I sent, which caused this, went out at 19/01/15 07:56 [local Toronto time]
Did I decipher the bounce msg correctly and if so, what ought be the next steps and by whom?

[TekTalk] Unable to make calls, but can receive calls with Grandstream SIP
I'm trying to configure my Grandstream GDS3710 SIP door station with TekTalk account.
I tested my account with X-Lite Softphone and was able to call and receive calls with minimum user/pass/server config.
On the Grandstream device, SIP account shows online, and I can call the intercom from my mobile phone with no problem.
But for some reason I can't make calls from the Grandstream to any phone number.
I was following the settings from this guide.
https://help.teksavvy.com/hc/en-us/articles/202340554-Grandstream-HT502-Line-1-Configuration
What's weird is that I switched from UDP to TCP and was able to make the call like several time! Then I switched back to UDP and calling no longer worked, then I switched back to TCP and still cannot make calls.
I even put the device's IP in DMZ and tried SIP Passthrough enable/disable setting on my Asus router.
Also tried different public STUN servers from online sites.
Spent like 4h trying different settings.
