If they remove the copper when completing the FTTH install does that mean I'm stuck with rCable? Even in an instance like this where they replace copper with fibre?

Since FTTH access wont be here until 2084, how about pair bonding?

Is there any update on this or are IISPs not bothering with pair bonding in hopes of attaining FTTH access? I recently switched to Cable but would have stuck with DSL if 100Mbps was offered.

Shout Out to Shawn C - Teksavvy Hosting

Here I am, again, to sing the praises of Teksavvy web hosting in general and Shawn C in particular :) I recently discovered that CanadianISP was taking a hit from Google because I wasn't using SSL on the site - I honestly figured that since I really wasn't hosting any sensitive information, there was no need. Google, apparently, disagrees, so an SSL certificate is what I need. Not gonna lie: My server admin skills are not what they used to be (and it was never my strong point, when they WERE better) - Shawn made the entire process painless and amazingly easy. My whole site has the little green padlock, which tells people they can transmit their non-sensitive information completely securely now, without worrying about people who have no interest in their data spying on it :) Thanks Shawn and TSI! -Marc

Can't use wireless on ZyXel VSG1432 while in bridge mode?

Hello everyone, this Monday I made the switch to Cable from DSL and trying to save some cash I'm trying to use the ZyXel VSG1432 in bridge mode to use wireless with the TC4350, however I'm having a hard time enabling the wireless portion of it, I suspect it is because DHCP is off when in bridge mode so I can't really connect any wireless devices. So the question is: is it even possible to do what I'm trying or should I just bite the bullet and get an actual router? :D Thanks in advance.

[DSL] Almost daily reconnects for SR515AC modem in Toronto

After switching from Bell's Fibe 50/10 to Teksavvy 50/10 things were flawless for the first 20 days or so. I am in the downtown Toronto area. Now over the past month I am experiencing frequent resets of the link. I am running the modem in bridged mode so don't have access to the modem stats. I am however logging all the messages and see the following connection times; 2018-09-03T22:25:13-04:00 router.asus.com pppd[428]: Connect time 30170.4 minutes. 2018-09-05T09:06:23-04:00 router.asus.com pppd[428]: Connect time 2078.8 minutes. 2018-09-06T19:59:29-04:00 router.asus.com pppd[428]: Connect time 2091.6 minutes. 2018-08-07T10:24:31-04:00 router.asus.com pppd[427]: Connect time 5610.1 minutes. 2018-09-08T06:38:59-04:00 router.asus.com pppd[428]: Connect time 2077.4 minutes. 2018-09-09T17:14:33-04:00 router.asus.com pppd[428]: Connect time 2075.0 minutes. 2018-09-11T03:56:51-04:00 router.asus.com pppd[428]: Connect time 2080.8 minutes. 2018-09-12T14:52:40-04:00 router.asus.com pppd[428]: Connect time 2094.4 minutes. 2018-09-14T01:36:04-04:00 router.asus.com pppd[428]: Connect time 2079.9 minutes. 2018-09-14T16:04:27-04:00 router.asus.com pppd[428]: Connect time 867.5 minutes. 2018-09-15T12:16:49-04:00 router.asus.com pppd[428]: Connect time 1211.7 minutes. 2018-09-16T23:05:42-04:00 router.asus.com pppd[428]: Connect time 2087.8 minutes. 2018-09-18T09:51:15-04:00 router.asus.com pppd[428]: Connect time 2084.3 minutes. 2018-09-19T20:29:59-04:00 router.asus.com pppd[428]: Connect time 2077.8 minutes. 2018-09-21T07:11:08-04:00 router.asus.com pppd[428]: Connect time 2079.0 minutes. 2018-09-22T17:49:41-04:00 router.asus.com pppd[428]: Connect time 2075.8 minutes. 2018-09-23T17:49:00-04:00 router.asus.com pppd[428]: Connect time 1437.2 minutes. 2018-09-24T04:08:35-04:00 router.asus.com pppd[428]: Connect time 617.5 minutes. 2018-09-24T17:16:37-04:00 router.asus.com pppd[428]: Connect time 787.2 minutes. 2018-09-25T14:47:58-04:00 router.asus.com pppd[428]: Connect time 1289.7 minutes. 2018-09-27T01:03:50-04:00 router.asus.com pppd[428]: Connect time 912.1 minutes. 2018-09-28T11:26:06-04:00 router.asus.com pppd[428]: Connect time 2060.1 minutes. 2018-09-29T21:53:13-04:00 router.asus.com pppd[428]: Connect time 2065.7 minutes. 2018-10-01T08:27:35-04:00 router.asus.com pppd[428]: Connect time 2073.5 minutes. What is very suspicious is the time frame of the reconnects, most average 2060, or a little over 34 hours uptime. As you can see when first installed it went 21 days with no such issues. It is especially annoying since there is an approx 3 minute downtime while waiting for the timeouts and PPoE re-login. My router is running ASUSWRT-Merlin RT-AC68U 384.6-0 as its firmware.

[Cable] To the great gods (Admins) of Teksavvy

Hello TSI staff, I come here to bring something quite important to your attention that seemed to have gone amiss in the direct forums. Disclaimer - yes this is a complaint. On September 30th 2018, I signed up with Teksavvy for cable Internet. Place the order online for the 250/20 package. I have received a confirmation installation date of October 3rd 2018 and to expect a tech to come from 5pm onwards. With that confirmation date Teksavvy provider I then scheduled my cancellation with Rogers for October 2nd 2018. I got my modem and I was being a bit eager I decided to post into direct forums that I have my modem and I connected it to the cable and politely asked if I really did need to wait for the Rogers tech to come, or if Teksavvy could do something on their end. I was expecting Teksavvy to say suck it up buttercup and wait, but I got quite a response I was not expecting. I was informed that the vendor could not come to complete the installation today. It was changed to October 7th 2018 and my commencement date will be changed to reflect as such. Now I'm one with a lot of patience for Teksavvy. I was a Teksavvy customer a while back and subsequently for many years. I signed up with Teksavvy when they first started offering unlimited plans, which then had Rogers and Bell revolting with UBB which was fought back bravely. So yes I do understand and give Teksavvy a lot of leeway. I know they are reliant with the vendors. Here is where your clearly at fault and the guys on the direct forums failed to understand or perhaps weren't the correct individuals. The reply in the direct forms said the date I was given was tentative, and, they (the Vendor) changed it to a date they could do which was October 7th. Actually - no. I posted an image of the printout I made of the CONFIRMATION page which states; "Your installation has been confirmed for Wednesday October 3rd between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m." It also ends with; "You can now close this page, we'll contact you if there are any issues." You clearly provided me with a confirmation date, which then I took to use to cancel my service with Rogers for a termination date of October 2nd. You also failed to contact me to inform me of a change in my installation date which prevented me allotted time to make alternate arrangements This one is on you Teksavvy. My ask. Your guys at the direct forms said all dates are tentative. The printout clearly states the confirmation even providing an installation date and time. You shouldn't have your online system sending out inaccurate information. I think that should be looked into how the system failed. Second, you did not contact me about the issue that a change was made to my account, and that the installation date was changed. I don't really know what to say here other then I think you need to follow up and commit to what you write down. I acknowledge I have no right to say how you should run your business. I really liked being your customer back in the 2000s and was looking forward to it in the future. My hope here was to provide feed back on something that I felt you need to own up to, and fix so others aren't in the same situation and aren't left with a bad taste. Thanks.

Smart RG Modem on DSL I have 5 internet time servers set, there by default, and I tried to change a few by using their IP addressed and the logs only ever show Jan 1 as the date. If I change them there are error messages in the log that look very much like saying "nice try - no time for you!" Also what does the DNS Proxy setting do? - default settings are shown as Clearview and Home and seem to do nothing enabled or off.

[DSL] SmartRG 516AC Disconnects

So I've been with Start.ca for roughly 4 years, in that 4 years there's been one major outage which Start outline a week before it happened and about half a dozen disconnects or issues that I've noticed. Since October 1st, 2018 (When the switch happened) I'm at 3 minor outages that lasted 5-15 minutes and over 20 disconnects/reboots that have lasted over a few minutes or required the modem to be power cycled. What's up with that? Exactly the same service 50/10 VDSL. I'm currently running Teksavvy's file for Bridged mode.
