Shaw contract ends on a Sunday

My contract is up next month on Sunday August 26. What's the best way to deal with a new Teksavvy install? - Cancel Shaw on the 26th, not have internet for a day and install on the 27th? - Plan an install on Monday the 27th and let Teksavvy cancel (potential BS from Shaw for a 1 day renewal bla bla) - Plan an install on Saturday the 25th even though I'm technically still on contract but basically pay for that 1 day of service I won't use from Shaw? Idea's? :)

Smart RG 515-AC not working with NoIP?

So I've had a NoIP account for ages and used to run the updates from my desktop. That desktop's toasted, so I'm trying to configure it to run from the DSL modem. It accepts the creds and doesn't throw an error, and I've verified the creds I'm feeding to the modem are valid, but it absolutely refuses to update my IP. Am I missing something stupid, or is NoIP support broken?

[DSL] A working setup for ipv6 on 16.04 or debian? Tips? Debugging hints

Excuse me if this info is posted somewhere - in which case the answer will be quick and easy ;-) . I've been going in circles searching the net to deepen my understanding of ipv6 so I can finally get a working setup. I've made progress, but there is lots to grok. There used to be an ipv6 thread here somewhere... I can no longer find it. I am trying to get my Ubuntu 16.04 host/router working on TekSavvy ipv6. I already have several webhosts elsewhere serving ipv6. I am currently following this howto: https://www.bidon.ca/fr/random/2014-01-02-teksavvy-ipv6-dhcpv6pd PPP log shows my local and remote LL address on establishment: Script /etc/ppp/ip-up started (pid 14550) rcvd [IPV6CP ConfReq id=0xd8 ] sent [IPV6CP ConfAck id=0xd8 ] local LL address fe80::d801:db68:2a6a:2566 remote LL address fe80::02a0:a514:0081:2778 Then, after I do these next steps in the article above: -- To enable the default route from route advertisements: sysctl -w net.ipv6.conf.ppp0.accept_ra=2 To auto-configure an IP address to ppp0: sysctl -w net.ipv6.conf.ppp0.autoconf=1 After a few seconds, "ifconfig ppp0" should show a global IPv6 address, and "ip -6 route" will show a default route. You should also be able to "ping6 google.com" or he.net from your router. --- I get no global address or anything interesting in the logs, even after I bring ppp down and up again. Just the fe80 local address. Related, I am also confused what combination of SLACC, DHCPV6 etc is needed to work with TekSavvy currently. Any tip or pointers to other docs or help or even requests for further diagnostic information is appreciated! Thanks.

[DSL] Bell fibe installation before new DSL 25 install

I just heard that they will be installing a new Fibe jack in my unit this week but my roommate has the DSL install scheduled for next week. Does anyone have experience dealing with this? The Teksavvy reps had told me that Bell will refuse to install new DSL service where if there is Fibe available in your home. The request for the technician visit for the DSL install was submitted last night.

Amazing Tech Rep from Teksavvy

Hi I just called Teksavvy regarding getting my new service online with my own modem. Simone is the name of the rep that handled my call and I have never had better service from any other agent in my life and I used to do tech support for Time Warner cable internet. I just wanted to say thanks again Simone and hopefully a higher up from Teksavvy reads this and appreciates you as a valuable employee whom should perhaps be promoted.

[DSL] SR505N xTm and xDSL errors can anyone explain

I have a DSL dry loop line with Teksavvy i am seeing a lot of errors in the xTM and xDsl status sections. I never lose sync but i do get dropouts as if the system is logging me out very often. I talked with teksavvy and they say they can see the disconnects but provide no reason for them. In the logs i see serious socket errors. teksavvy says if they call a bell tech out i am gonna be charged 100 bucks. Can anyone explain the errors in the following screen shots attached. It sure seems to me i have errors and I don't think i should have to pay 100 bucks to get this fixed.

Happy Teksavvy's 20th Anniversary!

[Cable] 24 hours after switching modem, still no Internet

It's nearing 24 hours since I switched to a new cable modem by setting the new modem type, serial, and MAC address. I have verified all three are correct. My modem continues to report "Connectivity Status: Access Denied". How long is this supposed to take? My old modem also says the same thing, so I'm in a limbo state here of no Internet for a day in order to swap in a DOCSIS 3 modem so that I can then upgrade to faster service.

Hi, Teddyboom or anyone else... I had a minor issue with my modem where it froze completely. (We're not talking temperature). I decided to power cycle it... and now I have the Solid RED power light and the two ethernet ports green. I have tried: 1) Paperclip Reset 2) Setting IP to 192.168.x.10 GW: 192.168.x.254(where x on my net was 32) 3) Setting IP to 192.168.1.10 GW: 192.168.1.1 4) Looking online for a service manual Any ideas? Thanks

Is 1 to 2 hour wait really acceptable wait for CSR tech phone?

$

My service was down last week. The first time I called, the hold to speak to an agent was one hour. Then it did not get fixed. So I called back two days later, this time, the hold music announced a 2-hour wait. I was at work and there was no way I could just sit there and wait 2 hours. When I called later and waited 45 minutes, they told me I had to be at the service line to even send a Bell tech out. Ok, I went home and waited another 75 minutes this time, just to speak to someone again for 5 minutes and submitted a ticket to request a Bell tech field visit. It was the Bell field tech that fixed the DSL issue. Someone messed up the programming the Central Office. However, it took over 4 hours of phone wait just to submit a ticket for Bell tech visit. I had Bell service in the past. I called 611 and the phone got answered in less than 5 minutes. They send out a Bell tech the next day.... I am glad to see Teksavvy has grown to become probably the Number 3 or 4 internet / phone line provider in Canada... but they don't seem to think phone line staffing should be increased accordingly? I find it difficult to accept a 2-hour wait just to speak to a tech support agent on the phone. I am sure most people who had call recently experienced similar wait time. :(

[Cable] Switching DSL to Cable?

Hi there, Question, is switching DSL to Cable, am I allowed to have the promo that is currently on going right now? It's for new customers, but considering I never have cable set up here, I'm kinda new? After all, I got no DSL promo for years, with the exception of getting those referral credits. DSL is now unbearable crappy after the Bell tech fiddle with my line after their repair. No VDSL portion either. I been the crap box of DSL for a month, trying to save money to switch, but it's not worth it to hold on any longer... Ju Leon...

So, got monthly bill. It's for $5.75

Teksavvy can't possibly be that rich to let me get away with a full month for $5, ya? Must be a mistake. Checked for recent promotions, found nothing. Checked overpaid, nothing there. Maybe it's that thing where some people pay two months at a time? Don't think so, it's for dry-loop fee plus tax. I mean, dude, wtf. Who buys dry-loop with nothing on top? Who sells dry-loop with nothing on top? I called but an hour wait time, nah. Normally there's a callback option, didn't hear it. Is it borked or something? Here's my idea. Ima pay what I normally pay, not just $5.75 cuz that would be retarded. And if there's any promotion I'm not aware of, no prob, carry over next bill. Any TSI rep here to tell me otherwise?

[DSL] Smartrg issues

Hi it's been an annoying couple months after switching to teksavvy. Been having internet issues from the get go on and off. First I used the built in wifi function and for some reason at odd times my internet would go on and off on it's own, so I contacted support and they sent me another modem and it seemed to work fine for a day and half but the problem came back. So I figured I might just use my own router and followed the steps to make modem to bridge mode and ever since haven't see the problem back so that's all good. Lately though I been experience the yellow triangle on my network icon and when I run troubleshoot it tells me something along the lines of "failed to connect to DNS server" it happens occasionally but when it does it sucks because everything stops working for like 10-15 minutes. I sent a ticket and I'm told to try a modem firmware update, as I unplug my ethernet cable from router to my laptop to update, I get unidentified network/no internet access. I ran troubleshoot and it tells me an error that ethernet could not configure ip address. I tried to manually input it on the ipv4 tab but for some reason when I save it auto erases the ip address and subnet numbers and I noticed that the ip address # format is not the same to the default gateway number. I looked through countless videos and nothing works. In the end I'm told if I want I could pay 4$ for static ip or whatever that means, don't understand why I would need to pay anything. I got as far as finding a work around to getting connected to the internet was by setting up a broadband connection and used my login info given by isp but when I put in the ip address to access the modem's website it wouldn't load at all and times out. Any solutions is appreciated. Btw I'm able to connect on the internet it just gets annoying when it goes down. I'm no expert but I don't think DNS server issue is related to my side.

[Cable] ipv6 on rCable coming soon?

Hi just wondering if teksavvy has decided to let rogers assign their IPv6 address spaces to customers over cable yet? I know it's a loaded question but my question relates to information I read on CRTC site. http://www.crtc.gc.ca/eng/archive/2012/2012-96.htm As a paying customer for internet access, I feel I'm entitled to access IPv6 sites, because to me IPv6 is an important slice of a growing movement online. To me it seems teksavvy don't want to let rogers assign their address spaces, but I know this is pretty old information ( circ.2012 ). If I'm incorrect, of if anything newer can be said to explain teksavvy's IPv6 position over rCable, please share. I don't want to have to go to rogers, to get IPv6. I'm having problems with sites like netflix blocking public solutios like hurricane electric's 6in4 tunnelling blaming geolocation reasons (i know not your problem) but looking at that as a solution TS can offer to customers, so that the equipment and address assignments could be fully managed, at least it could be an option for customers that really want IPv6, and TS can guarantee that the IP Source is canadian. Thanks for the read thru.

How (Un)Important Are Existing Teksavvy Customers???

$

How important are current customers to Teksavvy? Not very any longer it seems, which is a very disappointing change of attitude by Teksavvy. . Let me start by saying that my Teksavvy service has been nearly flawless for well over a decade now (customer number 61##), aside from one to two hour waits on the phone in the past, the few times I called in. . Now the downside. As an existing customer, I called Teksavvy customer service to upgrade my vcable service to 60/10 at the $50/month, 1-year price currently being advertised and offered to new customers, and was refused. . As a decade-long customer, my first year 60/10 price would be $63.95/month from day one, while someone walking in off the street today would pay $50/month the first year for exactly the same service. . Is this how Teksavvy now values? existing customers, and is pulling new customers in off the streets becoming more important to Teksavvy than maintaining existing customer relationships built up over years (and more than a decade) with current customers? . How will these new customers be valued and treated by Teksavvy once they to become existing Teksavvy customers; like today's existing customers are valued? . Is this the future for Teksavvy as it grows larger, playing customer shell games and turning into another Bhell or Robbers? I hope not. . The loyalty and satisfaction of existing customers is the bedrock on which Teksavvy's past reputation has been built. What will its future reputation be built on? . Am I the only existing customer refused and disappointed by Teksavvy when wanting to upgrade my service? Were you able to access this offer or were you, as an existing customer, also refused by Teksavvy?

Switching from Bell to Teksavvy

$

Just cancelled my Bell service to switch to Teksavvy after Bell raised my 25/10 package to $125 per month. Same package from Teksavvy for $50. Bell retention tried to get me to stay by saying that "since Teksavvy only leases copper lines my speed will be much slower than if I stayed with Fibe". On Bell the best test results were 24/2. I assumed they were lying about Teksavvy being slower. Yesterday Teksavvy went live and my numbers are consistently 25/10. It looks like Bell may have actually been throttling my upload speed the whole time. Very disturbing that they use outright lies about 3rd party ISP to try and scare a customer into staying. I bet it works on some. I recorded the conversation.
