[Cable] Provisioning process for Cable Modems (Lights) [Calgary]

$

Hello! I have two addresses that I'm signing up with Teksavvy cable internet for... (after many long years of TELUS, I'm finally ready to move on - they still block port 80!) Provisioning with techs is later this week. The modems did not come with coaxial cables (Technicolor T4350s), so I bought a few. At one house, I plug it in, and I get all green lights (though a 169 IP address if I plug in). At the other, I get a flashing "DS" light, and solid power - nothing else. Way back, we had contractors who had severed the TELUS line to put in a garage (and we had them spending a lot of time fixing it)... they didn't own up to a coaxial cut, but now I'm wondering... Are the lights supposed to sync up before it's been provisioned? Are we wasting our time with our install later this week? What would our options be? Thanks!

[Cable] TC4400 by Xmas? :)

So, if you pay attention to the other TPIA forums, you'll have noticed that the TC4400 is now "CableLabs certified" - which appears to be a stepping stone for Rogers' (and other providers') approval. In the EBOX forum, their rep seems to think that Rogers-approval is coming soon. So, what do people here think? Could the TC4400 get rCable-approved by Xmas? (of this year!)

[Cable] TC4350 slows down from 150 to 15mbps in a week

Hello, Got the Teksavvy 150 package. After restart first 24 hours everything is amazing. Then it starts to spiral down. speedtest.net and fast.com start dropping from 150 to 60ish then another day later to 40. After a week on, max I can get is 15mbps down. I thought maybe it is a router (running latest ddwrt archer c7) but restarting the router does not fix the speed. Restarting the modem fixes the speed. What do I do? I dont use cable for anything, so the coax goes from the outside straight into the cable modem. The install tech said signal is too strong, and put a filter on it. Should I remove the filter? SmartRG Routers Stock Firmware

Hi, I want to update my parents DSL modem/router combo, and I was wondering if there is a "stock" firmware available for the SR505? They are on very old school DSL, so it doesn't need to support VDSL2 or anything like that. The target provider is Tbaytel. I was thinking of giving them my SR505, and just upgrading my modem...

Hi, Not sure this is doable, but the technician installed my DSL service upstairs into the phone jack, of course. I have another phone jack downstairs directly below the upstairs room. I want to buy a rj11 male to rj45 female adapter, is it possible to get a connection downstairs plugging the adapter (rj-11) into the wall (phone jack) with the male into it with the male in the adapter and the other male end into the computer?

Teksavvy T-bird setup

Can anyone direct me to what the real setting are for setting up a POP3 account in Thunderbird? I was given TS Help link and tried that. The problem I faced is that there is no mention of "Authentication". If I leave it as autodetect then it shows KERBEROS. When I enter that, a red warning comes up saying that the account in not secure and advising you not to do it. If I accept the problem the account shows in T-bord but won't download. Any suggestions, Support told me to contact Mozilla as it's there client problem.

[DSL] POTS/DSL Splitter Source

This isn't directly related to Teksavvy, but I'm wondering if anyone has a current source for a POTS splitter? It isn't for me, it is for my parents as I'm trying to help them boost line performance.

Hi Guys, I am in the Cambridge area and am getting slow download speeds. I am on the 150Mbps package and am only getting around the 100Mbps speed, is this normal. I was with another provider and had ZERO download speeds, just issues with small outages, hence the move.

Hi, Teksavvy publishes two config files for SR505N: one for a router more and one for a bridge mode. Is there such a thing for SR515AC? So far I have only found instructions for a manual setup.

Happy Teksavvy's 20th Anniversary!

[DSL] Modem Beta - SR516ac Testing (Bell OSLAM)

I thought it might be useful to have a thread that we use to discuss testing experiences with the SR516ac in Bell territory, rather than dumping everything in one thread or having a thread from every tester for general comments. I started by testing bridged mode, where line stability and performance were generally decent; about the same as almost any other Broadcom-based, Stinger-compatible modem. Using routed mode turned into another matter entirely. My initial attempts to get it running resulted in the PPPoE client connecting, then dropping the connection shortly thereafter, and failing to successfully re-connect. Re-booting the device caused the same cycle to repeat ad nauseam. I finally re-loaded the initial TekSavvy configuration file (which I had saved earlier), re-configured everything again, and got it running. It continued working for a day or two. Then, I got the bright idea to re-boot it, the the old cycle returned: the connection never came back up, or re-connected briefly, then unceremoniously died. There didn't seem to be anything useful in the "System Log", even with PPPoE debugging enabled and the log viewer set to Debugging. It almost seems like the PPPoE client thinks it's still alive sometimes, with PADI messages filling the logs, while the WAN status shows Disconnected. Has anyone else had this happen? Is there a known procedure to get SmartRG devices to work reliably that I am missing? Put another way, has my lack of experience with their devices allowed me to overlook something and make a stupid mistake? At this point, it doesn't make sense to discuss wireless performance, when the thing doesn't even keep a connection reliably. I'll surely get back to investigating this, but we've been without Internet and telephone service (TekTalk) long enough for one weekend.

teksavvy locks you out of your owns voip box, despite bad security

Hi Folks, I have been with this company for over a month, what a nightmare!!!!! ( and yes I am going to write a long an proper review about this company). My problems ( with my voip box and others start right away). 1. I had mistakes with billing ( another issue for another forum/day). 2. I received my tektalk box, and set it up as per the instructions of teksavvy rep. 3. I started to get incessant phantom calls/ ghost calls, that I could not stop !!!!!! ( was receiving 40 ghost calls/day) !!!!!! 3. Called Teksavvy , was told to find ip adress of offending ghost calls that were calling me over and over and over again. (used wireshark) 4. Finally I wised up , and asked DSL REPORTS folks how to stop this -----> YOU GUYS provided me with tips on how to stop this, thats when things started to work ! 5. After a while , I had to reset, as out bound calls were working but inboud were not. That's when trouble with teksavvy started happening They locked me out of my own box's admin settings. 6.Now if I am not paying to own the box, I understand. However, I am paying for the box and HAD TO SET IT UP MYSELF, TO FIX GHOST CALLS, so I should not be locked out of equipment I own. Finally one rep. agrees to let me have my own password, never made contact after that. 7. Today was the worse, I got some smartass named TREVOR on the phone. Trevor, gave me some sort of excuse about admin settings and how customers should not have access . I told him I own the box , AND there are instructions on how to do Admin settings on Teksavvys website HERE they are : ---------------------------https://help.teksavvy.com/hc/en-us/articles/200313980-Why-does-my-TekTalk-receive-phantom-calls ------------ 8. Trevor tries to be more smart, and coy-ly asks if I want to cancel the service, knowing that it takes a while to find a new provider to port your phone number to . I am so pissed over all the troubles I received I will actively look for another provider.

[DSL] Basic DSL not available in my area?

$

I am currently a cable internet subscriber with Rogers. Over the last couple of months there have been a number of outages, so I though maybe I should get a basic DSL service to my home as a backup given how essential internet access has become with VOIP, IPTV, and home automation etc. I came across Teksavvy, however when I entered my address, there is no DSL service available. I went a step further I engage online chat, and a rep says because Bell does not offer DSL service at my address, therefore Teksavvy cannot offer it neither. What would be the technical reason behind this? I am not even looking for the latest and fastest DSL service, I just need the 6Mbps basic as a backup. Doesn't the basic DSL just run off phone lines? That said, I don't have a traditional phone line neither since I am on VOIP. Would that be the reason? Is there a process I can engage to bring DSL service to my address/area? L3T postal code. Thanks!
