Porting a landline phone number used in DSL

I'm considering porting my landline phone number (Bell) to a cell phone however I use the landline for my DSL internet (Teksavvy). If I kept the landline active while I sort out dry loop stuff, will my internet service be affected by the porting process?

I just ordered a TC7650 for my rCable service. Currently 60/10 but want to go faster. Is this the best bet at this point? I assume this doesn't have the puma6 chipset? https://www.amazon.ca/TP-Link-Download-1000Mbps-Certified-TC7650/dp/B06Y4TG6KN/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1526313391&sr=8-1&keywords=tc7650

Can I get regular TekSavvy residential service at a business address? Or is it limited to business service at business addresses? More specifically, on sCable. I dont need 15mbit for $55. 5mbit for $24 would be excellent.

[Cable] Shaw-compatible cable modems?

$

hi all- The Hitron & Technicolor modems are the only two on the official support list for Shaw Cable areas in AB. Are there any others that are anecdotally compatible that you're familiar with? Both these models are 5+ years old using the terrible PUMA6 network chipset with performance and security flaws galore. Is it just DOCSIS-compatibility that's necessary, or something specific that the provider needs beside this?

Routing to Shaw

It was brought to my attention by another customer and I've just verified myself that traffic to Shaw's network is now a cross-Canada trip. It used to just stay around the west coast but not anymore. Teksavvy promo's

Shopping around for a new ISP and was just wondering how often Teksavvy has promo's and deals like they currently have running. Looking at deals on switching from a main ISP Cogeco cable internet to cable internet on Teksavvy. Right now they have the "20 years" deal running. ~$5 Discount for 6 months on cable 60 package ~$0 ACTIVATION ~$20 HARDWARE DISCOUNT Wondering how often deals like this come along? I can't rightly switch internet right now and will probably look to switch in 2 months or so, I wasn't expecting to switch either service this year and thus it wasn't planned in the budget. I have to deal with getting a new phone service first and it would be just too much to pay upfront for both new isp, modem+router+new cell and a new phone service hookup etc. Not interested in renting a modem+router either.

Hello, I am looking to change my sagecomm F@ST 2864 modem/router as its limited in what I'd like to do. I can't seem to find a list of approved routers on the Teksavvy site. Is any router ok to use that can support PPPoE? Also I think I paid $120 or so for the router, do you buy it back?

[Cable] Where to buy TC7650? (for rCable)

I thought amazon.ca had the TC7650 for a good price? I only see it from a third-party-seller on amazon.ca, for $112. I'm a bit leery of 3rd party sellers (especially when they're NOT fulfilled by amazon) because it feels like I'm buying something from Ebay. Any other vendors having the TC7650?

Best modem for maginal DSL lines

What is the current recommendation for the best modem for marginal DSL lines? This is for a cottage where it's on a long loop with high attenuation. Currently using a 10 year old ST516, but when I had a Bell tech out for issues his equipment was reading much higher speeds than my modem is capable of sustaining. I tried a different ST516 and it got about a megabit higher (reproducible switching back and forth) but still far less than what the Bell tech's equipment said I should be able to do. This was with the Bell tech, so it wasn't a profile issue. I have a separate router and don't need anything other than a basic DSL modem, don't need VDSL support (unlikely there will ever be VDSL out there). I'm open to modems from TekSavvy or elsewhere, whatever is best.

[DSL] WiFi speeds

Hi everyone, I'm looking for some advice for my situation. I recently moved from Cable 25 to DSL 25, and have been using the same Asus RT-N16 router (with tomato) for many years. When I was on cable, WiFi speeds to the internet were 25 Mbps, but on DSL they are around 20-21 Mbps. It's more annoying than problematic, and I'm wondering what the issue may be. Summary of what I've done: SR515AC configured in bridged mode (also separately tried SR505N in bridged mode). Connecting my PC with Ethernet cable into the RT-N16 can get 25 Mbps rock solid, but wireless gets 20-21 Mbps. WiFi channel selection and interference are not the issue. I can get 50+ Mbps doing TCP/UDP iperf from my wired PC to/from wireless devices via the router. Modem stats are pretty good as far as I can tell (sync rate is above 26000 kbps, SNR is above 30 dB, attainable DL rate is above 95000 kbps). Can this be due to MTU size? I'm really struggling to understand where the problem could be. Unfortunately I don't have another router I can try. I understand I can change the modem to be in routed mode and give up on my Asus router, but ideally I want to solve this problem. If anyone has advice on other things to try, please let me know!

[DSL] Zxyel VSG1432 and Google wifi trouble

$

:hmm:Hi, Just wondering if anyone here has had trouble (or success) with a Zyxel VSG1432 In Bridge mode and Google Wifi router. This is the first router I’ve ever had trouble with with the Zyxel 1432. I’ve eliminated cables, power supplies, and even the individual Google wifi device (I have 3) as the cause. Basically, I can get google wifi setup and connected, all the built in tests check out, but I have trouble, especially with Netflix, and also some sites loading large data streams from a CDN (even CNN). I’m on VDSL on a Teksavvy 25/5 plan in alberta. I’m on the latest VSG1432 firmware. My old router is a Archer C7, running OpenWRT, which works well except for range. There are some other threads on Bridge mode problems on th VSG1432, suspected MTU size limits, but nothing specific to Google Wifi. I don’t want to do double NAT. Unfortunately google wifi doesn’t provide advanced options such as MTU size,it’s supposed to be basically plug and play.

[Cable] New to cable internet - Choosing a modem for Shaw network

$

I'm in the Vancouver area and I've always had internet from Telus (DSL before and Fibre now) and been very happy with the speeds, it's pretty much always been exactly what they promised. I tried Shaw cable once before but was disappointed with the peak-time slow downs. This was a while back though. I'm now moving to an area in Langley where I can only get some of the lower DSL tiers. So I've decided to go with cable either from Teksavvy or Lightspeed depending on the pricing. I'm looking for some advice on what modem to buy, I'm planning to go with the 75mbps plan, but ideally I'd like a modem that could go to 150mbps in the future. I'm seeing that there's a lot of issues with Puma 6 based modems, so I'm wondering if it's better to just stick with one of the older modems like the SB6141. Or is that likely to result in peak-time slowdowns due to lower number of channels?

[DSL] SR515AC in bridge mode

Hi, Teksavvy publishes two config files for SR505N: one for a router more and one for a bridge mode. Is there such a thing for SR515AC? So far I have only found instructions for a manual setup.
