May be silly questions but...
What happens if I increase my internet cable speed that does not require a modem change (i.e. my current modem supports the new speed as well)? Are there any service charge? Is a technician required?
Also, are there any promotions for cable speed upgrades? Thinking of upgrading to Cable 30 unlimited.
Thanks in advance.

[Cable] After switch Rogers to Teksavvy router looses internet every few days
Hi there!
I was with Rogers cable internet for a full year and I didn't have any problems to speak of. Only lost internet a couple times and never needed to restart my modem or personal router.
After switching to Teksavvy at the beginning of this year, I started to have an issue where my personal router loses its internet connection every few days or so even though my modem seems fine. Restarting the router or changing the router's DNS setting seems to fix it. Disconnecting the ethernet from my modem to my router, plugging my modem directly to my PC, and swapping back to the modem-router configuration seems to half-fix the problem where IPv6 domains (ie. google.com) work fine but IPv4 domains (ie. amazon.ca) don't??
This might suggest that the problem is my personal router... But what leads me to believe this is not the case is that I started having this problem right when switching from Rogers to Teksavvy.
Also, I would simply not use my personal Linksys router at all, but when I try to use the modem in gateway mode with no personal router I have major stability issues where my download, upload, and pings are all over the place. I suspect I'm having this issue. This is the reason I want to get things working with my personal router and the modem in bridged mode: when the modem is in gateway mode my internet is an unusable mess half the time.
Here's a rundown of my network configuration:
Personal router is the only thing plugged into my modem:
Linksys WRT 32X, firmware version 1.0.180404.58 (unchanged since 4/23/2018)
Modem:
Rogers: Hitron CGN3 in bridged mode, firmware version unknown! It could have been 4.5.8.40??
Teksavvy: Hitron CGN3 in bridged mode, firmware version 4.5.8.37T12
As you can see I'm using the same modem model with Teksavvy as I was with Rogers, though the firmware version might be different.
Does anyone have any tips on resolving this problem? Is there maybe a certain lease expiry time I should look for to determine what the trigger of the problem is? (If I know some lease is going to expire at a certain time, I can see if the problem happens at exactly that time, so I know it's that lease that's the trigger of the problem...)
So far I've been recording ipconfig /all and tracert on different domains, but haven't found anything too crazy other than the one thing I mentioned above.
Thanks!
[Edit: it turns out changing my router’s DNS just restarts the router. I’m pretty sure it’s just restarting the router that fixes it, not changing the DNS]

Just got a notice from TSI that my bill is INCREASING by $5
That's a first. All plans will be affected.
What a bad time to make this decision and notify customers when some of us don't even know if we can make rent next month thanks to the national shutdown.

[Cable] Anyone setup ipv6 on pfsense with teksavvy ?
So i noticed i am actually getting a ipv6 address steady at this point rather then up down and all over the place.
For obvious reason i haven't set it up with pfsense yet and was wondering if anyone done it and has a walk-through to save time and mistakes.
Thoughts?

streaming help
I am using DSL 7. The audio and video while using zoom is stuttering and freezing, even when using with an ethernet cord. Anyone have suggestions for me to get better quality? Yesterday I did a speed test, and that seemed fine according to Teksavvy tech support. They suggested I use a wired connection which I did today, but still had the same problem, and was still an issue when I turned off video and used just the sound. It sometimes sounds like slow motion and then it speeds up again, and video freezes. Besides getting a faster line, suggestions?

[Cable] Technicolor TC4400 Rev:2.0.0 keeps loosing router connection
I have a very strange problem my internet goes down yet everything on the modem looks ok and to recover just disconnect RJ45 and reconnect. in a lot of the cases it shows down on my router yet I can look at logs in Modem. It does this even when laptop is direct connect to modem also.
modem is a TC4400 Technicolor
Software Version 70.13.43-190628
It use to happen only once or twice a day but now it's seems to be more and more.
looking at the logs in the modem I have the following:
first I get about 9 messages like
"Started Unicast Maintenance Ranging - No Response received - T3 time-out;CM-MAC=
about 2 seconds apart
then I get
Received Response to Broadcast Maintenance Request, But no Unicast Maintenance opportunities
No Ranging Response received - T3 time-out;CM-MAC=
Received Response to Broadcast Maintenance Request, But no Unicast Maintenance opportunities
SYNC Timing Synchronization failure - Failed to acquire QAM/QPSK symbol timing;;CM-MAC
then it's just done it look ok but no internet like cable disconnected but yet I can log into the modem in a lot of the cases.
Any suggestions or things to try

[Cable] CCable - Frequent dropouts
Anyone else noticing this? Tons of people on the local FB groups are complaining about their Cogeco internet service and a guy from Cogeco said it was caused by increased volume on the network.
But the speeds seem fine for us on the Teksavvy network but when I check the modem logs, there are tons of "Lost MDD Timeout" and "SYNC Timing Synchronization failure - Loss of Sync" errors at the same time our service drops out.
I doubt this has to do anything on our end because I've informed Teksavvy support about this before and gone through "yes, I reset the modem, yes, I bypassed the router and connected the computer directly to the modem" multiple times. Heck, I don't even think Teksavvy support can even correct this issue since it very well might be a vendor thing.

[Cable] Departing with sadness after a decade with TSI
I used to be a heavy contributor here, been away for a few years but wanted to share the experience that has led to my having to cancel today. Hopefully it might be helpful feedback.
1) I scheduled a move of my rCable service for Feb 7. I spoke with someone who spoke clearly and concisely, and handled everything great.
2) The Rogers tech shows up, says it's too dark to run the cable. Says he'll get me a new appointment, which I know is a lie, so I call TekSavvy.
3) This call doesn't go so well. The rep struggles to understand me and does not speak English particularly well. He says someone will call me. A more capable rep calls on the 8th and re-sets the appointment for the 10th. I am getting frustrated and call Bell as a backup plan.
4) The Rogers tech never shows on the 10th. I call TekSavvy. The rep seems disinterested in solving the problem and keeps pushing me to reschedule. I'm no longer interested in rescheduling. I want to know why the tech didn't show She says the job is marked complete and that she will call back later that day. She does not.
5) Bell shows up as promised and installs FTTH on the 10th.
6) The same Tek rep calls on the 11th with the re-scheduled appointment I didn't want and no explanation or apology for the gong show on the weekend. I ask to cancel the appointment and my services. She says fine, and obviously doesn't care at all.
7) Rogers shows up at my house. Rings the bell. Goes away. Calls me, annoyed no one is home.
All in all, a nightmare of poor support. I can't believe it's come to this, but I'm out, after being a huge evangelist for TSI for 10 years. I hate returning to the big Telcos, but feel like I was left little choice by a terrible booking system, Rogers' ineptitude, and some very weak support agents .
I'll still be cheering for TSI...hoping I can return one day.

Technicolor DPC3848V - wired devices failing to get an IP from router
hi all
(sad to hear the staff are no longer here. boo!)
I'm at my folks place for COVID, and they have the Technicolor DPC3848V DOCSIS Gateway.
Wi-Fi works fine, but it's constantly failing to give the WIRED devices an IP. 3 of the 4 LAN ports are in use (two desktops and a smart TV) and often they revert to auto-config IPs. Sometimes rebooting helps, but most times it doesn't. Devices connected wirelessly remain A-OK either way.
I've already factory reset it, and that didn't resolve anything. I mean it helped once for a week, then back to the same thing.
I've also moved around which LAN port they are connected to, no joy.
Logging into the web interface, under "Connected Devices Summary", those 3 Ethernet devices list status as "Offline".
They do physically link -- the LED lights up on front of gateway, and on back of desktop etc.... but somehow the DHCP server isn't giving an IP just to wired devices?
....any tips / tricks / suggestions?

[Cable] Can I use my own router?

[DSL] DSL 15 increasing bandwidth cap from 200 GB to unlimited
I have the grandfathered package DSL 15 Lite, 200 GB/month. When Teksavvy resumes overage billing, would I be able to change to DSL 15 unlimited in future if needed? DSL 15 is no longer listed on their website but it still shows that for DSL 6 and Cable 5 you can increase the bandwidth cap from 200 GB to Unlimited for $5.
https://www.teksavvy.com/services/internet/
https://www.teksavvy.com/policies/important-service-info/service-overages/
"If you increase or eliminate your bandwidth cap before the 28th of the calendar month, we will apply that change to the current month’s usage—so, instead of overage, we’ll charge you the difference between the two plans. If you up your plan on the 29th, 30th, or 31st, though, the change will apply only starting the subsequent month: the current month will still incur overage charges."
