[DSL] SR505N / SR515AC firmware upgrade

I have noticed that new firmwares are available for both modems and the last two steps are now to perform a factory reset. Are these new steps just added or I just never paid attention before? I have just performed an upgrade from 2.6.1.6 to 2.6.1.10 without a reset and everything seems to be working fine. Is there an incompatibility between these two firmwares?

[TV] App keeps requiring login

The Shield TV (Android) TV app forces a re-entry of username/password every 3-4 days. Is there a setting or solution to stop this happening? It's the most recent version. Also, the app won't recognize the keyboard, which makes entering username/password extra tedious. The other apps installed on the Shield have no problem working with the kb. Is there a setting for this?

Are we only able to buy theme packs ? If so this is worst than cable because I am not gonna pay 8 bucks to get CBC news network.btw this should be incl in the basic package IMHO as its a federal and tax payer supported national TV service Can we subscribe to single channels as well or is it at least going to be available in the future ? P.S. I know the news theme pack incl CNN,Bloomberg,CTV News, etc but the only one I want is CBC NEWS

TP-Link TC7650 for Ottawa

2 of my sisters have decided that they are ready to go to Teksavvy for their Internet access and they want to have the same setup as me. I currently use a TP-Link TC7650 modem, but we can't seem to find any new ones on the market. Taking a chance on a refurbished one is iffy. Does anyone know where to get at least 1 of these modems? Failing that, I choose the 7650 because it didn't have the PUMA chipset that I heard was flaky. Is it still so? If not any suggested modem (have a router) to purchase?

Is there any way for talktalk to provide a special dial tone when you have voicemail as opposed to a "digital message indicator" Thanks. PS: With Bell and Videotorn, when you have a message waiting, you have a special dial tone whenever you pic the phone up , so that's where thats coming from.

Fibe packages?

Bell is doing upgrades in my neighborhood and I'm almost certain that their gigabit fibe packages will be available to me sometime soon. Can Teksavvy offer any of those packages yet? If not, is it because access hasn't been mandated yet or is it because the costs would be insane? (I'm in Ottawa - K2C - if the region matters at all.) I'm currently on the 250/20 rcable package for $90/month, but if Bell comes knocking on my door I'm not convinced I'll be able to turn down their 500/500 package at $95/month...

[TekTalk] TekTalk and alarm system

So I recently switched to Tektalk from Bell pots. Recently my alarm company has been calling about it unable to receive their test ping after the switch. Home phone is working as it should but not the alarm system, are there any settings I can change to try to fix the incompatibility? I am reasonably sure that it's hooked up properly polarity wise.

CRTC and TPIA

It appears to me CRTC somehow has been guided to slowly kill TPIA by not speeding up on Fiber access to TPIA customers with reasonable tariffs, plus CRTC have also been delaying to finalize temporary tariffs on non-fibers access. Any one any input on this one please? Anything we as users can do or just throw our hands in the air....

[Cable] Internet "goes down" periodically for a few seconds

Recently I've run into an issue where the internet would seemingly go down for a few seconds and resumes as if nothing happened afterwards. I'm not entire sure what to look for but I do have a lot of these "No Ranging Response received - T3 time-out" followed by "DHCP RENEW WARNING - Field invalid in response v4 option" in the modem logs. [DSL] Upgraded Speed to 50Mbps - Speedtest shows 35Mbps

Hey there TekSavvy, I put an order in to upgrade my vDSL from 25 to 50Mbps. It appears the order was processed as Ookla SpeeTest to the TekSavvy server shows an increase but I'm only seeing 35 up and 10 down not 50. Similar results to Hell's server in TO. On the original vDSL modem with f/w FAST2864_v67428 Cheers, Bruce

[TV] Fire Stick Questions

$

Recently got TV and am using the Fire Stick...was hoping some experienced folk can chime in on the following: 1) it seems like when I select a channel in the guide, it's a two step process. First, you select the channel and options pop up, the you select "watch". Am I doing something wrong here? I'd expect to be able to just select the channel/program and it goes there in one click. 2) I gathered there is no formal way to have the the TV app load automatically with booting the device. Is the alternative simply to have the device/app running all the time, e..g turn tv off only? Does the app/device time out or something after some time? 3) Is there any sort of built in streaming quality adjustment based on the connection? E.g., will the app/server automatically change to a lower bitrate if the connection is too slow? Ultimately what I'm getting at I suppose is can I be sure I'm viewing the "best" quality stream. 4) As a follow up to point 3, are there any useful diagnostics in either the Fire Stick settings or TV app settings to assess network connection quality? I think I saw something in the app diagnostics about signal/network quality but I'm not sure if that was actually meaningful data

Using LinksysE1200 with a SmartRG505n

The SmartRG 505n has awful WiFi performance. I have a spare E1200 lying around and tried to hook it up in bridge mode. I have a 25Mbps connection and the SmartRG occasionally reaches this (unstable). The E1200 is theoretically capable of reaching this limit, but I barely see around 2-4 Mbps in it, which makes me think that there is a secret setting somewhere to unclock maximum bandwidth in bridge mode. Any suggestions on how I can set up these two so that I can use the 505n only as a modem and the E1200 as the main WiFi router in bridge mode (either LAN-LAN or WAN-WAN)?

Hey guys, Got a Hikvision security camera system at my friends house who is also with Teksavvy using the SR515ac DSL Modem. I have configured the DDNS using Dvrlists.com however when I go to the dvrlists.com redirect I made it goes to the Teksavvy DSL Modem where mine at home (also on teksavvy) Goes to the NVR as it should. Any ideas? Must be setting within the modem I would think? Thanks
