[Cable] Clarification on cable DHCP process
So I'm new to cable and just wondering how the DHCP process works. I have two identical systems. One connects to the cable modem, issues a DHCP request and gets an address. Everything works fine.
Now the part I don't understand.
If I disconnect the cable from the modem to the first system and connect it to the second system and bring up the interface I see it ask for a DHCP address and get no reply. If I bring down the interface and spoof the first system's mac address then bring it back up (with spoofed mac) it sends a DHCP request and gets an answer (the IP the first system was using).
Ok so I figured maybe some kind of timeout that I need to wait for. Waited an hour before trying to bring up the interface (with non-spoofed mac). No luck. Just times out. Does the modem need to be rebooted to use a different MAC? Isn't the CTMS doing the DHCP? Why would the modem be involved? I understand that they don't want to issue multiple IPs to a given customer so the first would become invalid when issuing the second but I don't get why it won't issue one at all. What's going on here?
Not exactly a problem - just trying to understand things.

Speedtest
Perhaps I have an outdated URL .. but going to http://speedtest.teksavvy.com results in a message that says:
"This test has expired
Go to www.speedtest.net/mini.php to download a new release"
Just an FYI ... (and yes, I know there's 4.2 thousand other speed tests available elsewhere)

Wanting to switch from Bell Phone to Tektalk Premium
I would like to switch our home phone to Tektalk Premium. I have a few questions.
1. The computer and modem (Cable) are located in my room. My room's phone jack is disabled (meaning if I were to plug a phone cord, the phone wouldn't work). It was disabled by a Bell technician. Will this be an issue for the setup? I'm not familiar with Voip, but I do know that a device (Grandstream HT-812) will be need to be connected to the modem (Technicolor TC4350).
2. We have a cordless phone system in the living room plugged to a phone jack. It comes with a voicemail and little device that shows the name and number of a caller. We also have a number of cordless phones around the house (somehow linked to the main phone system). All they require is a power supply (no need to plug each of them to a phone jack). Will all this equipment still work on Voip? How would the Voip device be linked to the cordless phone system?
3. Regarding international rates, if I take Sweden as an example, according to the teksavvy website, it's $0.003 per minute.
For an hour, that would be $0.18. Yet, the rate for North America is 2.9¢/minute, which would be $1.74. per hour Is that accurate? I find it strange that international calls are cheaper.

tFibre
So...
I went and searched this forum for 'fibre' and couldn't find any relevant results (even though I know Bell's fibre was discussed at some point)...
I am just wondering if Telus is going to have to allow fibre access to TPIA, and wondering if Teksavvy knows anything? I doubt a timeline or anything is available, just wondering if something is "in the pipe" :D or something. Surely the Bell ruling will have some ramifications for Telus as well.
I just found out the trenching crew is supposed to show up in my neighbourhood to run FTTH and their 150 symmetrical will be about the same price as my bonded 50...

[TekTalk] TekTalk - Wrong time on SPA2102 (Daylight Savings Time)
I've been on TekTalk since November, using my own Linksys SPA-2102 (I manually provisioned it, cloning the settings from another TSI's user's 2102 ATA). It's been working fine for the most part, until yesterday...
When the clocks went ahead an hour for Daylight Savings Time, the time on my cordless phones stayed as-is. I tried manually updating the time on my Panasonic phones 1 hour ahead, but as soon as I receive an incoming call, the CID "updates" it back to Standard Time, 1 hour behind!
Here are my settings:
DNS Server Order: "Manual"
Primary NTP Server: "time.nist.gov"
Secondary NTP Server: "ntp.nasa.gov"
Time Zone: "GMT-05:00"
Daylight Saving Time Rule: "start=3/13/7;end=11/6/7;save=1"
Daylight Saving Time Enable: "yes"
Since I'm using my own ATA and the MAC ID isn't registered in Teksavvy's server database, I have the Provision Enable: option set to "no". I'm don't think that is causing the issue, is it? As far as I'm aware, the only thing it cannot do is download firmware updates (I'm on 5.2.12) or automatically re-provision the settings in my ATA if I accidentally factory reset the ATA. Don't think it uses TSI's server to adjust the clock.
I'd really like to get this problem with the incorrect time solved, so thought I'd ask here.

[DSL] Changing VDSL profile - what does my attainable need to be?
Hey guys
I wanted TSI to change my profile but before they could I asked them not to, I realized that my line may not be able to handle that.
I am currently on the 50/10 plan on a Stinger, set to 46.5-47/10. Interestingly enough I get full 10up.
TSI may not be able to change the profile in their tools if the line doesn't sync at some specified rate right?
Currently get:
Mode: VDSL2
Traffic Type: PTM
Status: Up
Link Power State: L0
Downstream Upstream
Line Coding(Trellis): On On
SNR Margin (dB): 7.8 6.4
Attenuation (dB): 14.5 0.0
Output Power (dBm): 14.2 -3.5
Attainable Rate (Kbps): 53690 12248
PhyR Status: Inactive Inactive
G.inp Status: Inactive Inactive
Path 0 Path 1
Downstream Upstream Downstream Upstream
Rate (Kbps): 50033 11316 0
If my line were to sync at 56,000 downstream would that be enough to change to V53952-26944_11328-2048_00011?

Recommend a good value Wireless router
Hi,
I recently upgraded to the Teksavvy 100MBPS cable internet (YAY). However, my internet speedtests showed speeds of around 45-48MBPS. The reason for this, as I found out after talking to tech support was because my Wireless router is a WRT54GL and can't handle the 100MBPS. When I run the cable directly from the modem to the computer without the wireless router I get 99.97MBPS which is great.
I now have to buy a new wireless router.
What do you recommend if I eventually go up to 1GBPS "if" and "when" we get it.

[DSL] Moving My VDSL Modem
I have a quick question for the knowledgeable folks here on this forum. I just had VDSL 15/10 installed in my home and my modem is in the basement of my three-storey home. I would like to move the modem to the second floor living room. Is it as simple as unplug and replug where I want it? I am semi-technical so I might be able to rewire if need be, but please lay it out in simple terms please.
Thanks in advance.
PS: I did a search but I couldn't understand some of the technical jargon that was used, and I didn't want to revive some old threads.

[DSL] Modem/router combo, dsl vs cable?
I am in no way familiar with internet codes or whatever.
I don't know whether to choose TekSavvy DSL vs Cable.
I'm looking to save money.
I'm interested in the unlimited 15mps DSL service, I live in an apartment duplex. I only intend to really stream netflix, surf the web, no gaming or anything crazy, but I'd like unlimited to ensure I wont go over bandwith.
Would this combo be okay? https://www.walmart.ca/en/ip/300mbps-wireless-n-adsl2-modem-routertd-w8961nd/6000071264003
I tried looking under the approved modems on the TS site but it's all gibberish to me.
