Hello, recently got Tektalk basic, so far everything fine. But today I got a Tektalk voicemail indication on the phone not the voicemail on my cordless phone. I only have basic, how can I access it?

[TekTalk] What is password for Grandstream HT812 supplied by TS?

From a Grandstream HT812 user guide, the admin password is supposed to be admin, and a user-level pw is supposed to be 123. Neither one work on the unit I'm playing with right now. Does TS change or set the PW to something different if you obtain this box from them?

[Cable] Gotchas with installing cable internet at new construction

I will be moving to a new construction house and plan on ordering Teksavvy Internet through cable - it is Rogers territory. What are the steps, how many technicians need to visit and are there any gotcha's because it's a new construction and no existing services are there yet.

Weakest Link of DSL

...is the flimsy 26awg stranded RJ11 cable they supply you with your ADSL2+/VDSL modem to connect with the wall jack. It surprises me that some people spend hundreds and thousands of dollars upgrading the wiring in their homes to CAT5E or CAT6 only to connect their ADSL2+/VDSL2 modem with a $0.50 RJ11 flat cable ! So how many of you are fussy enough to make your own cable to connect your modem to the DSL jack ? I make 12" CAT5E solid RJ11 cables for my own setup since there is barely any one that sells them online and none through retail level.

incompatible product on the line

this is probably a long shot but I hope someone has the same issue as me. I called Teksavvy to change my DSL profile from 25/10 to 50/10. I called 5 days later about the status and they said bell rejected my upgrade in speed because I have "incompatible product on the line" I don't have any product other than Teksavvy haven't had phone or tv ever with any company. the only company I have ever delt with is Teksavvy. I have called bell 3 times and they say they have no product with me or this house or the dry loop/gas line. I bought my house 4 years ago never had any other line on it. has anyone ever had the same problem?

Cable Availability in old Source territory/BGP between DSL/cable?

$

I've been toying with adding link redundancy to my lab, and getting a cable line and doing DNS-based GSLB between links for certain services. 2 questions: 1) The online service availability tool shows cable as not available in my area, but I also know that Rogers isn't always the best at updating their service area to resellers. Does anyone know if TSI cable is available in Rogers' Hamilton (East Mountain) territory? (The old Source/Mountain Cablevision plant that they bought out a few years ago) 2) I have 2 /29 subnets on my DSL service. Would TSI allow me to control advertisement of those routes and swing them between links?

[Cable] Poor Connection in Hamilton

Anybody in Hamilton having a poor connection the last few days? Modem stats are ok and I have rebooted the modem and router, but the connection is usually poor. It might become normal for 10 minutes but then takes another dive. I don't expect anything can be done - it's like having a cold - all you can do is wait for it to go away; but I was curious if others in the area are having problems.

[DSL] Upstream Packet Loss in Network

I am experiencing upstream packet loss of up to 12% on my 5 Mbps DSL service. Downstream is clean. Test results from the demarcation point (by Bell technician): - Bell EXFO meter test results are clean (see attached screen shot) - Packet loss test (www.voiptest.8x8.com) shows 6.5% to 12.0% upstream packet loss (see attached screen shot) So it appears there is no packet loss to the Bell server, but there is upstream packet loss when connected to the public internet. The Bell technician tried switching ports at the Alcatel 7330 DSLAM, but the problem persists. It seems the packets are being dropped further in the network infrastructure. This issue is affecting our voice communications (TekTalk VOIP calls are dropping), uploading large files to our website, and remote connecting to Windows computers. I have made numerous phone calls to TekSavvy support. They attempted to escalate to NOC (Network Operations Centre) but NOC will not investigate because they "do not investigate individual subscriber problems". Can anyone please: - Offer any insights on what might be causing the packet loss? - Offer any advice on how to escalate within TekSavvy?

[Cable] Anyone else high pings and packet loss in Vancouver?

This is from 5pm PST in Vancouver, BC Canada, but I've had housemates complain that Facetime and Youtube is nearly impossible over the last couple of days. Pings at 3600ms intervals. I have a slow computer and do a lot of UDP or streaming so I've been relatively ok and haven't really noticed This chart is for one hour. Something about the packet loss doesn't read right from the program. If it's wrong, then it means 66% packet loss. Program I used is pinglogger. Pretty simple program, but highly useful. Is this because incumbents like shaw are trying to keep up with telus fiber by overselling their old tech? Henceforth the email I got about upcoming service outages?

Wet to dry line timing

Hi, we currently have Teksavvy Business DSL on one of our pots business lines with bell. When our pots contract is up I plan on going voip for a variety of reasons. If I port out the number of the line the dsl is on I will lose dsl correct? Is the best way to order a new dry loop to be set up then port out the lines? I have a modem included with the dsl and could just transfer it over to the dry line which would negate having Teksavvy send out another one. Any pointers from anyone who has done this or similar. I want to try and avoid down time especially as the new lines will be going to voip. Thanks for any pointers.

[DSL] Modem/router combo, dsl vs cable?

I am in no way familiar with internet codes or whatever. I don't know whether to choose TekSavvy DSL vs Cable. I'm looking to save money. I'm interested in the unlimited 15mps DSL service, I live in an apartment duplex. I only intend to really stream netflix, surf the web, no gaming or anything crazy, but I'd like unlimited to ensure I wont go over bandwith. Would this combo be okay? https://www.walmart.ca/en/ip/300mbps-wireless-n-adsl2-modem-routertd-w8961nd/6000071264003 I tried looking under the approved modems on the TS site but it's all gibberish to me.

If I dont have any internet issues at all with Bell DSL 25mbit would that mean that I will not have any internet issues at all if I switch to Teksavvy dsl 25mbit? Or am I taking a risk just to save a few bucks?

[Email] Email - Did TekSavvy change something recently?

I run an old utility called PopTray 3.2 that sits in my tool tray and checks for new emails very 5 minutes. A couple of days ago it stopped working, reporting 'Socket error #10054, Connection reset by peer.' I use Thunderbird as an email program and it still works, using, as far as I know, the same parameters as PopTray. Something has changed at TekSavvy - any idea what I should be looking at? Conversely, any suggestions of another utility that will do the same monitoring that still works?

Openvpn with DD-WRT, and Smartrg

I am trying to make an openvpn(client) connection using Ivacy service provider. I use two routers. My ISP is Teksavvy. Router 1, smartrg, IP: 192.168.1.1, with Teksavvy credentials Router 2, TP-Link Archer C9 flashed with DD-WRT, IP: 192.168.11.1. I have set up router 2 according to Ivacy. (with Ivacy credentials) https://support.ivacy.com/kb/how-to-configure-openvpn-on-dd-wrt-router/ I set Wan Connection Type; Automatic Configuration-DHCP, in router 2. When I disable openvpn everything is OK. All devices get different IP, 192.168.11.xxx, internet is OK. When openvpn enabled, I get the message, CONNECTION SUCCESSFUL(vpn), with a page long information about the connection. All devices get different IP: 192.168.11.xxx, but NO INTERNET. At this time, I see internet is available at least up to Smartrg.(light is green) I appreciate any suggestion that makes internet working.
