Currently using a Thomson DCM476 from Teksavvy, a Linksys Cisco N600 dual band E2500 router, and the cable 6 package (300GB cap). Every now and then my ping will shoot up to the thousands. Usually 2-3k ms when using command prompt ping test (ping www.google.com -t) or sometimes it says timed out. Restarting both the router and modem does not fix the problem. Neither does a hard reset. I've called to get tech service a number of times but I never got an explanation as to why it happens and usually, after an hr of waiting for someone to pick up, it might go away or I'm too tired of waiting on the phone. I've submitted a ticket before and the only thing they detected as a problem was the power level of the modem and so they sent someone to put in a splitter to adjust it but the issue still persists. I've replaced my modem a total of 5 times, 3 different models and used 2 of the same one with the same issue. Another thing to note is if I have this high latency issue, plugging directly to the router via Ethernet cable results in the same high ping I had before, but going directly to the modem there is no issue so it sounds like something is wrong between the modem and the router, but having tried 5 different routers I have to believe its not the router. Can anyone provide some insight into my issue?
