Indeed, this has been my experience with streaming overall. Now, YouTube claims to have servers in major cities to serve content faster, but still erroneously locates me in Toronto, a 500km+ error. Would this error confuse YouTube into assuming HD streams need to be served from Toronto, giving slow performance in the process?
When looking at bandwidth usage loading a HD video, sometimes it takes about 400KBps (more than 4 times slower than my actual connection), sometimes more than 1.5MBps, and in neither case it seems to be enough for smooth playback.
Is there a reason for this inconsistent performance, either not using full available bandwidth, or seemingly not having enough?
