TekSavvy DSL Routing/Peering. Trace route request

$

Hey guys. I live in St. Catharines and was wondering if TekSavvy DSL bypasses Bell's peering and does it own. I ask because we currently have Bell DSL and the routing is pathetic. My latency has tripled. If anyone has Teksavvy DSL in the Niagara region, please do me a favour and run a trace route to this IP. 208.68.90.171 Thanks a bunch. -Tyler

[TekTalk] Caller ID not displaying correctly on phone most of the time?

So I've had this annoying problem... As title says, most of the time the caller ID does not display the name or number! I just tried to call my house with my cell, and nothing, no name and no number. But I just logged in the tekportal portal, and lo and behold, my name is there under calls... So it can detect the name, yet it is not displayed on the phone. Like I said, it seems to be an intermittent issue, sometimes a name or number will appear, other times not, I think it just shows 'incoming call'...? Seems to be dependent on who calls. Any idea what the problem could be and how to fix? Thanks!

[TekTalk] Adding a phone to Phone2 jack and other issues.

Hey everyone, First off: everyone in the family seems to love TekTalk, which is a relief. The pricing is reasonable, the features generous, the connectivity solid, etc. But why is it that I can't plug a phone into the ATA's Phone2 jack? The setup I have is as follows: ATA Phone1 into phone jack; then ATA Phone1 into router (ASUS RT-N16), and router into modem (DCM475). I would like to also have a working phone in the room, and thought I could just slip it into Phone2. No go, though. Why not? What is Phone2 used for? Also, not all of the TekTalk features are functional. It's been a while since I went through the list of all the things available, but I do remember speed dial not working. Has anyone else had trouble? Thanks for hearing me out!

[TekTalk] CallerId shows 1 hr later

Just noticed this morning that the caller ID on my TekTalk seems to have gone to Daylight Savings a week early e.g. TekTalk portal shows my receiving a call at 8:46am but my phone shows it as at 9:46am. Is this a problem in my ATA (bought from TekSavvy)? Or a more general TekTalk issue?

[Portal] Is the Teksavvy Usage Tracker ready for prime time?

We've been informed by several of the Teksavvy staff members that the Usage Tracker is ready for prime time, and is no longer in Beta. Teksavvy will begin charging for overages starting April 1, 2014. But how reliable is it? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- After a day of reporting no usage statistics (for March 9), I was presented with what you see in Screenshot No. 1 on March 11th. Seems as the usage tool is displaying both the usage for March 9th and March 10th all under March 9th. Didn't think much of it, thought it would fix itself. Screenshot No. 2 was taken on March 12. Usage for March 11th is displayed as March 10th. The error was not fixed, nor was the error left isolated and the correct data was displayed moving forward. Its fair to assume the usage statistics for the entire month is going to be a mess? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- While it is simply a minor bug that I found, how many else are there? I've seen many users complaining about such things as Off Peak Usage being tracked as On Peak Usage and etc. Should such unfinished product be relied upon to keep track of usage? and worse yet, charge customers?

Slow SSL on 563

I'm using port 563 on SSL and I'm noticing for the last week or so this port seems to be limited to slow speeds during the day. If I change the port to non-SSL it works fine. Anyone else experienced this or am I seeing something weird on my end I haven't been able to track down? -- http://www.codecipher.com - Marking the way to tomorrow's solutions -- Did you know that Perl is not Dead? http://perlisalive.org/

[DSL] Speed availability discrepancy?

Hi there, I'm trying to sign up with TekSavvy. I've already got a cancellation order with my current isp. last week I tried to sign up. 10mbps service was available. I got right to the payment screen, but didn't have my wallet handy. Today I tried to sign up again, 10 mbps service is available with my postal code but when I type my address in at sign up I get the oops! page offering my 6mbps. I currently have 15/10 (get 12-14 down no sweat) What's changed? I called tek savvy directly, (very friendly btw) and they confirmed 6 was the max at my address. Why could I sign up for 10 last week, and only 6 this week? I'm hoping its a website/software error somewhere and will try to sign up again tomorrow. Could my current isp have done something to the line? I'm still getting 12-14, but even their website says I can only get 5mbps now...? Any help is appreciated. Many thanks!

Shaw Disconnected my Internet

I switched from Shaw to TSI in January. Yesterday at around 11:00 am a Shaw tech came to my house and unscrewed the cable removing my ability to access the internet, telephone and other related media services. At approximately 7:00 pm I contacted Teksavvy after spending 90 minutes trying to resolve the problem myself. I spent 30 minutes on the phone with them which resulted in a ticket being created which stated very genericly that "we must allow them the opportunity to review this information and can take 24hrs to 48hrs to respond." This morning at 10:00 am (this is now 23 hours without internet) I had my wife take a look at the cable box out front. It was recently dicked with. You'll notice the obvious cable that's disconnected here: http://i.imgur.com/blEls4z.jpg After plugging it back in, low and behold my internet worked. What can I do to stop these douches from doing this again in the future? It sounds like this is a common issue. If they're doing it trying to get me to resubscribe to them, it's having the opposite effect. If I decide to leave TSI I won't be going back to Shaw because of this bullshit. My only options that I see right now are to secure the green box to prevent unauthorized access, filing a suit in small claims for the time I spent diagnosing/trouble shooting the issue and any costs associated with it, or living with it and taking it in the ass whenever they decide to disconnect me.

Thanks Teksavvy

High latency spikes while playing games?

I'm on rcable. These past couple days, around 8:30PM there is always a lag spike that sticks around until midnight, and even then my latency is slightly higher then what it normally is. This is all while I'm the only one doing anything on the internet. Everything else works fine, just my latency turns to crap. Has anyone else experienced this? If it matters, I'm playing World of Warcraft...idk if that has any relevance or not.

[TekTalk] 2014 TekTalk Review

$

Hi, I have been looking around for recent review of the Teksavvy TekTalk service but have not seen anything recently. I have read mixed reviews from older posts. My parents currently have Teksavvy DSL 6DL/800UP with a POTS Bell Phone lines and they are paying a fortune. They are happy with the DSL but cringe at the price of the POTS line price. 1. Is the Teksavvy Tektalk service more stable and reliable than past posts have indicated? 2. Does the ATA the Teksavvy sells Grandstream HT-502 perform well with the service? 3. Would the 6 meg DSL package be sufficient for use with Tektalk? 4. Is a QoS router needed for more stability with the service? My parents major usage is web browsing, listening to online radio, and Netflix streaming from one TV. Any reviews would be great to help with the decision. Thanks. Bob

Unlimited pricing?

Where on the teksavvy website can I see unlimited pricing for the cable offerings?

Zap the Cap on = unlimited always or just during that period?

So reading about Zap the Cap, says you get unlimited downloads if you self-throttle your downloads for four hours each night. So is that unlimited 24/7 for participating in the program, or unlimited just during those hours (meaning any downloads during those four hours dont count towards your cap)?

I have never seen a single issue on the BC cable network. It has got to have 100% uptime. The best service!! However, my experience tells a different story.
