I have been having frequent cable internet outages for a few weeks now. It seems like everything will be fine and then service will just cut out. Sometimes things will be fine for only a few minutes and sometimes it'll be fine for hours and then cut out again.
Have tried the following troubleshooting steps:
-connect modem directly to computer
-factory reset modem and reboot from 192.168.100.1
-factory reset/reboot router
-power cycle router
-power cycle modem
Most of those are pretty standard.
Teksavvy support has said it might be the modem (or a bad ethernet cable... or router...) but I was wondering if I have any options for diagnosis other than buying a new $100+ modem and finding out it wasn't the modem after all.
In the logs for 192.168.100.1 when the service is down the log will usually show error code 3-critical for a few messages: DHCP failed, RF failed, and a few others I can't remember off the top of my head. This seems to indicate a problem at TekSavvy's end, rather than our own.
When internet access goes down the router is still up and running ok (can see computers on the network) and the modem seems to be ok (can access via 192.168.100.1) but the ISP connection has failed somewhere. TSI support said they aren't showing any problems on their end, so it has to be on my end, but I'm not 100% convinced (since they had so many problems recently and that's when the trouble started on our end). The wolfedale POI that I'm on was one of the affected areas.
If anyone has any idea how I can diagnose if the problem is really the cable modem or if it's actually on TSI's end and they are somehow unaware of it, replies/help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
