BYOM on FTTN

I've been renting a bell cellpipe modem for $8 a month for over a year now, I've paid more than enough for this modem. I own my own VDSL2 modem and it works better than my cellpipe (which wont do 50mbps in bridge mode) Why do I have to indefinitely pay for this modem I do not want or use? When can we stop paying for this and return the modem? I'd be perfectly fine to sign something voiding modem support. I dont care about support for my modem, I can do that myself.
